A submarine is cruising at - 40 meter (40 meters below the surface). It descends 20 1/4 meters; then it rises 15 3/8 meters. What is the submarine's new depth

    Decends 20 and 1/4 so going down

    20 and 1/4=20.25

    -40-20.25=-60.25

    then rises (goes up) 15 and 3/8

    15 and 3/8=15.375

    -60.25+15.375=-44.875

    the depth is - 44 and 7/8 meters
