A 14 meter rope is cut into two pieces. One piece is 4 meters longer than 4 times the shorter piece. Fine the lengths of both pieces

    4x + 4 + x = 14

    5x = 10

    x = 2

    8 + 4 = 12

    One length was 12m, the other one was 2m.
