    3x-6+4=-20

    - add 6 to both sides

    3x+4=-20 + 6

    3x+4=-14

    - then subtract 4 from both sides

    3x=-14 - 4

    3x=-18

    - then divide 3 from both sides

    -18 divided by 3 = - 6

    x = - 6

    3x-6+4=-20. First, you would take - 6 and add 4 which would give you - 2. So now the equation is, 3x-2=-20. then you would take - 20 and move - 2 over and add it because you would do the inverse. Then you have 3x=-18. So then you would take - 18 and you will do 3x and divide it because you would do the opposite of multiplication. so then you would get x=6
