    That is, it is impossible according to the mathematical proof put forward by Pierre Wantzel in 1837, to trisect a line segment by using only a straight edge and a compass.

    What is possible however is the trisection of a right angle.

    It is also possible to trisection other arbitrary angles using other tools besides a straight edge and a compass.

    Trisection refers to the division of a quantity or a number into three equal parts. Angle trisection refers to the construction of an angle equal to three arbitrary angles that are equal to each other.
