    In second equation add 0.74 and y to both sides: 3.25x+0.74=y;

    Substitute y in the first equation: - 4.5x-2 (3.25x+0.74) = -12.5;

    Distribute multiplication over addition:

    -4.5x-6.50x - 1.48=-12.5;

    Combine like terms and add 1.48 to both sides:

    -11x = - 12.5+1.48;

    -11x = 11.02 divide both sides by - 11;

    X = - 11.02/11 = - 1.00 (18)

    Y = 3.25• - 1.00 (18) +.74 = - 2.515 (90)
