A gardener has 72 feet of fencing to enclose a

rectangular garden with its border. The border

surrounding the garden is 2 ft wide.

Use this information to answer the following.

(a) If the length of the garden is to be 3 times its width, what will be the dimensions of the garden? (Round length and width values to

the nearest tenth as needed.)

(b) What is the area of the garden? (Round to the nearest tenth as needed.)

    p = 6w+8=6 * (9/3) + 8=46 so w = 25/3ft and l=44 / 3
