Which has the greater area: a square with a side that measures 17 inches or a 16 1/2 inch by 18-inch rectangle? How much more area does that figure have?

    The squares area is 17 * 17 which is 289

    The rectangles area is 16.5 * 18 which is 297

    So the rectangles area is greater than the squares by 8 inches.
