With absolute value, youll create two equations. since the absolute value is already on one side, you dont have to do anything to it first.

    |x-1|>4 is the first equation. Isolate X by adding 1 to both sides.

    x-1>4

    +1 + 1

    *>5 is the first solution.

any equation with absolute value will have two answers. the second equation is just the opposite of the first. im pretty sure the inequality sign flips as well.

    |x-1|<-4

add 1 to both sides again to isolate X

    *-1<-4

    +1 + 1

x<-3 will be the second answer.

    the answer is x5
