    D) The remainder when p (x) is divided by x-3 is - 2.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    The remainder theorem states that p (a) = 0 then a is a root

if p (a) = y then the remainder when the polynomial is divided by x-a is y

    so if p (3) = - 2

we know that x-3 cannot be a root because it would have to = 0

    We do know that the remainder when p (x) / (x-3) is - 2
