    Elephant, because in one hour he travels 25 miles, while the giraffe in 1/2 hrs travels 16 miles, if you make it 1 hour for giraffe you would 16x2 = 32 miles, so the elephant is faster

    The giraffe runs faster

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Given parameters

    Let S1 represent the constant speed of the elephant

    Let S2 represent the constant speed of the giraffe

    S1 = 25 miles per hour

    S2 = 16 miles per ½ hour

    Required: Which animal runs faster.

    To determine the animal that runs faster, we have to first make sure that the units of speed in both cases are the same.

    For the elephant

    S1 = 25 miles per hour.

    For the giraffe,

    S2 = 16 miles per ½ hour

    We convert the constant speed of the giraffe to miles per hour

    Since speed = distance : time

    S2 = 16 miles : ½ hour

    S2 = 16 miles * 2 per hours

    S2 = 32 miles per hour

    By comparison S2 is greater than S1, so the speed of the giraffe is greater than that of the elephant.

    Hence, the giraffe runs faster.

    This is so because the elephant can cover a distance of 25 miles in 1 hour. Given the same time, the giraffe will cover a distance of 32 miles.
