Nate and Nora are making a map of Africa for their geography class. Their

teacher told them to use a scale of 1 inch equals 500 miles. Africa is

approximately 5,510 miles from north to south and 4,520 miles from east to west.

Will the map fit on a standard piece of paper that is 11 inches long and 8 inches

wide? If it fits, will it fill the page or will the scale need to be adjusted?

If it does not fit, what would be a better scale to use?

It will not fit. A better scale would be 600 miles/inch.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    5510/500 = 11.02 inches

    4520/500 = 9.04 inches
