We know that 3 divided by something equals 12, so what is that something? we can divide and get 0.25. now we know that 3/0.25=12. so now we know that 2y = 0.25. our next step is to find out what multiplied by 2 gets us 0.25. we can use inverse operations and get 2/0.25. that gets us 0.125.
0.25 = 1/4
0.125 = 1/8
