At the beginning of the fall, the water level of a lake is 12

feet below normal level. After a drought, the lake's water

level dropped 13 feet. Where is the lake's current water

level in relation to its normal water level?

    x = normal water level

    x - 12 - 13 = x - 25

    so it is 25 feet below the normal water level
