you had $23.70 to spend on two raffle tickets. After buying them you had $17.90. How much did each raffle ticket cost?

    Each raffle ticket costs $2.90. This is because we had $23.70 to start with and we ended up with $17.90 so we subtract those together to get $5.80. We then divide this by two (representing two tickets) to get each raffle ticket being $2.90.
