    Answer: The difference in height is 1 foot and 7 inches

    Step-by-step explanation: We shall start by finding a standard conversion rate between inches, feet and yards.

    The standard is, 1 yard equals 3 feet.

    Also 12 inches equals 1 foot.

    Therefore, if Mali's sunflower measures 1 yard, 2 feet and 3 inches, the whole length can be broken down as follows;

    3 feet (1 yard) + 2 feet + 3 inches

    That gives us 5 feet and 3 inches.

    5 feet becomes (12 x 5 = 60) 60 inches, and so Mali's sunflower measures 60 inches plus 3 inches which is a total of 63 inches.

    Kai's sunflower on the other hand measures 6 feet 10 inches and that becomes 72 inches (12 x 6 = 72) plus 10 inches which is a total of 82 inches.

    Having determined that Mali's sunflower measures 63 inches and Kai's sunflower measures 82 inches, the difference in height between both their flowers is given simply as

    Difference = 82 - 63

    Difference = 19 inches

    This can be converted into a higher unit, remembering that 12 inches equals 1 foot, 19 inches now becomes

    1 foot and 7 inches, and that is the difference between both sunflowers.
