to solve an expression to its most simple form you must combine like terms this means combining the terms that have the same variable. for example
8+5y+2y-4x+3y+2x+6x+3=78
8+3 = 11
5y+2y+3y=10y
4x+2x+6x=12x
=78
the simple form of this equation would be
11-10y+12x
