y=2x+3
Since both equations are equal to y, we can set them equal to each other
-2x-5=2x+3
Add 2x to each side
-2x+2x-5=2x+2x+3
-5 = 4x+3
Subtract 3 from each side
-5-3 = 4x+3-3
-8 = 4x
Divide by 4
-8/4 = 4x/4
-2 = x
Now we can find y
y = 2x+3
y = 2 (-2) + 3
y = -1
