    Answer: 120 inches

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Given: Length = 2 + Width

    Area = 48

    AP = Length * Width

    Substitute the first equation into second equation. This will be:

    48 = (2 + W) * W

    48 = 2W + W^2

    0 = W^2 + 2W - 48

    Width = (6, - 8) but we can't have negative number, therefore the width = 6 inches

    Then, substitute the answer back into the first equation,

    Length = 2 + 6 = 8 inches

    To have frame of 3 inches all around,

    Length = 8 + 6 = 14 inches,

    Width = 6 + 6 = 12 inches

    Area of the frame with the painting will be:

    Area = Length * Breadth

    = 14 * 12

    = 168 inches^2

    Just the frame = 168 - 48

    = 120 inches square.
