    Here are the numbers arranged on a number line. In this visual sense, we say that one number is greater than another is it's to the right on the number line. Ordering the numbers from least to greatest here is the same thing as listing the numbers as they appear from left to right.

    That order for this problem is - 8, - 5, 0, 2, 3.

    1. - 8

    2. - 5

    3. 0

    4. 2

    5. 3

    Negative numbers are less than positive numbers because they come before zero. So the farther a number is from zero, the less value the number has. Positive numbers come after zero, so they are greater than negative numbers.
