    Number of people in the first car=27 Number of people in the second car = 10 Number of people in the third car = 42

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let the number of people in the first car = x

    In the first car, there are 17 more people than in the second

    Therefore, Number of people in the second car = x-17

    In the first car, there are 15 less people than the third.

    Therefore, Number of people in the third car = x+15

    The three cars carry a total of 79 people.

    Therefore:

    x + (x-17) + (x+15) = 79

    3x-2=79

    3x=79+2

    3x=81

    x=27

    Therefore:

    Number of people in the first car=27

    Number of people in the second car = 27-17=10

    Number of people in the third car = 27+15=42
