    First, open the brackets by multiplying its contents with its coefficient. From there, everything is pretty straight forward.

    (39x-13) - (16+12x) = 52

    Therefore, 39x-13-16-12x=52

    39x-12x-13-16=52

    Thus 27x-13-16=52

    27x=52+13+16

    27x=81

    x=81/27. x=3
