Show that the number - 0.88 is a rational number by finding a ratio of two integers equal to the number.

    This can be done with how you read decimals in place value (tenths, hundredths, thousandths, and so forth).

    Our number is - 0.88, which has 8 in the tens and hundredths place, or, 88 hundredths.

    Write the hundredths part as the denominator, the first part as your numerator.

    = - 88 / 100

    That satisfies the definition of a rational number, because both - 88 and 100 are integers and we have a ratio between them. Further, we are not dividing by zero.
