In Marjory's book, The Everglades: River of Grass, she looks at every aspect of the inter-connected Everglades and highlighted its unique beauty and importance. However, many early explorers believed the Everglades to be a flooded wasteland that should be drained. From the perspective of a South Florida pioneer (late 19th century to early 20th century), write an essay to argue for or against the draining and development of the Everglades region. Consider the need for homes, water, food (agriculture), and the presence of indigenous communities in the Everglades.
