    X = independent variable

    Y = dependent variable

    1. y = 5x + 10

    20 = 5x + 10 plug in

    -10 - 10 subtract like terms since 10 is positive

    10/5 = 5x/5 divide by 5, trying to get x by itself

    2 = x 5 divided by 5 cancels out and 10 divided by 5 is 2

    y = 5 (30) + 10

    y = 150 + 10

    y = 160
