-12 = 4 (n-2)
multiply 4 with what's in the parentheses. You want to distribute it.
You get
-12 = 4n - 8
move the constant (-12) to the opposite side of the =.
move the variable (4n) to the left, or opposite side of the =.
equation now looks like
-4n = - 8+12
Calculate the sum or difference of - 8 + 12
-4n=4
divide by negative four on each side
n = - 1
