    X+y=3500

    y=3500-x and

    x-y=2342, using y found above in this equation yields:

    x-3500+x=2342 combine like terms on left side

    2x-3500=2342 add 3500 to both sides

    2x=5842 divide both sides by 2

    x=2921

    So Jarred has 2921 contemporary titles.
