    Y = 3x + 2 ... so we sub in 3x + 2 for y in the other equation

    2x + y = - 4

    2x + (3x + 2) = - 4

    5x + 2 = - 4

    5x = - 4 - 2

    5x = - 6

    x = - 6/5

    y = 3x + 2

    y = 3 (-6/5) + 2

    y = - 18/5 + 2

    y = - 18/5 + 10/5

    y = - 8/5

    solution is (-6/5, - 8/5)
