    Area (rectagular field) = side₁ x side₂

    Area=96 m²

    side₁=12 m

    96 m²=12 m * side₂

    side₂=96 m²/12m=8m.

    Perímeter (rectangular field) = 2*side₁+2*side₂

    Perimeter (rectangular field) = 2*12 m+2*8 m=24 m+16 m=40 m.

    Answer: he needs 40 m of fencing.
