A rectangle's length is 12 inches greater than its width. if the perimeter of the rectangle is 56 inches, find the length. (all answers are given in inches.)

    The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum of all sides of the shape. It is expressed as:

    P = 2l + 2w

    where l is the length and is equal to 2 + w and w is the width

    22 = 2 (2+w) + 2w22 = 6ww = 11/3 inches
