A student found the product of 8 x 10^6 and 5 x 10^9 to be 4 x 10^15. What is the error? What is the correct product?

    The correct answer is 4x10^16

    8x10^6 times 5 x 10^9

    = 40 x 10^15

    = 4 x 10^16

    there is 40 which is 4 x 10, which you can add to the 10^15 to become 10^16
