    The value of x is 7 because 7 times 8 is 56. Then 2 times 4 is 8 so 56 take away 8 is 48

    Plug in 4 for y. So 8x-2y=48. This becomes 8x-2 (4) = 48. Then, 8x-8=48. Add 8 to both sides. 8x=56. Divide each side by 8. X=7
