Length of a rectangle is 3 ft less then twice the width, with an area of 44 square ft what are the diminsions

    (length) = 2 * (width) - 3

    (length) * (width) = 44

    plug the first equation into the second equation and get:

    (width) * [2 * (width) - 3] = 44 then distribute

    2 * (width) ^2 - 3 (width) - 44 = 0 then solve

    (width) = 11/2 or - 4

    but physical lengths cannot be negative

    so we have (width) = 11/2

    then we can plug that back into the first equation:

    (length) = 2 * (11/2) - 3 = 8

    therefore your Width would be 11/2 ft

    and your Length would be 8 ft
