Arianna bought a total of 15 flowering plants. That means if we let x be the number of pink flowering plants, then there must ne (15 - x) be the number of purple flowering plants. Since each pink flowering plant and purple flowering plant is $8 and $5, respectively, then the total should be 8x + 5 (15 - x). Given that she paid a total of $96, we have 8x + 5 (15 - x) = 96 8x + 75 - 5x = 96 3x = 21 x = 7 Thus, she bought 7 pink flowering plants.
