    Solve for x:

    (-4 x - 2) (x - 7) = 0

    Split into two equations:

    -4 x - 2 = 0 or x - 7 = 0

    Factor constant terms from the left hand side:

    -2 (2 x + 1) = 0 or x - 7 = 0

    Divide both sides by - 2:

    2 x + 1 = 0 or x - 7 = 0

    Subtract 1 from both sides:

    2 x = - 1 or x - 7 = 0

    Divide both sides by 2:

    x = - 1/2 or x - 7 = 0

    Add 7 to both sides:

    Answer: x = - 1/2 or x = 7
