Length of Ribbon cut off by Sarah = (1/8) * 48 inch

= 6 inches

Length of ribbon cut off by Jane = (1/9) * 36 inch

= 4 inches

So we can see that the piece cut off by Sarah is longer than that of Jane.

length by which the piece of Sarah is longer than that of Jane = (6 - 4) inch

= 2 inches

So Sarah’s ribbon is longer than the ribbon of Jane by 2 inches.
