The Empire State Building in New York City is 1,454 feet tall. A model of the building is 24 inches tall. What is the ratio of the height of the model to the height of the actual Empire State Building?

    24 : 1454 ... ratios can be written as fractions ... 24/1454 = 12/727 or 12 : 727

    Ratios are so order. The question stated that height of the model to the actual height is required. Since the model is first then we would expect the first number to be smaller than the proceeding number. The last 2 are our possible answers. Dividing both heights by 2 we would get 12 and 727. Hence our answer is 12:727.
