Leila bought 2 pairs of shoes that were the same price. Including the $3 sales tax, she paid a total of $57. What was the cost of each pair of shoes before the tax was added?

    57-3 = 54

    That means without tax, both shoes cost $54. So half of 52 is $26. They were each $26.
