    So,

    2x + 3 = - 7

    Subtract 3 from both sides.

    2x = - 10

    Divide both sides of the equation by 2.

    x = - 5

    Check.

    2 (-5) + 3 = - 7

    -10 + 3 = - 7

    -7 = - 7 This checks.

    S = {-5}
