What is the range of

f (x) = - | x + 2| + 3

    The least that can be contained in the absolute value sign is zero. So the maximum f (x) is 3. The absolute expression approaches + oo which is then multiplied by - 1, so as x approaches infinity, f (x) approaches - oo. So the range of f (x) is (-oo, 3]
