The difference between two numbers is 25. The smaller number is 1/6th of the largest number. What is the value of the smaller number?

    Difference between x and y is 25

    lets say x is bigger

    x-y=25

    smaller is 1/6 of larger

    y=x/6

    sub x/6 for y in other equation

    x - (x/6) = 25

    times both sides by 6

    6x-x=150

    5x=150

    divide both sides by 5

    x=30

    y=x/6

    y=30/6

    y=5

    the smaller number is 5
