Solve for x and y

x+y=3

-2y+x=1

    Since y does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right side of the equation, by subtracting y from both sides.

    x = - y + 3

    Move all terms that don't contain y to the right side and solve.

    y = x/2 - 1/2
