5X = - 12 + X

How do I solve this?

    First, cancel out your X values to get one x on a side. To do this subtract the x that is least in value. X is smaller than 5x, so you have to subtract it.

    5x-x = 4x,

    Now your new equation is 4x = - 12.

    Divide both sides by 4.

    Answer is X = - 3
