A cyclist bikes at a constant speed for 22 miles. He then returns home at the same speed but takes a different route. His return trip takes one hour longer and is 27 miles. Find his speed

    22/5 = 4.4 hours

    27/5 = 5.4 hours

    Alright this is how you solve it

    Distance over time equals speed

    So 22/y=x and 27/y+1=x

    Start by solving for time by having these two equations equal each other

    22/y=27/y+1

    Cross multiply to get

    22 (y+1) = 27y

    22y+22=27y

    Isolate Y

    5y=22

    Y=4.4

    Now solve for X which is the speed, you can plug in Y to either of the two equations

    22/4.4=x

    X=5 miles per hour
