    Let x = small number

    Let y = large number

    Because they are consecutive even numbers, they must have a difference of 2:

    y-x=2

    y=2+x

    Eqn 1: x + (2+x) = 14

    Eqn 2: x (2+x) = 48

    2x+2=14

    2x=12

    x=6

    This means y must be 8

    so your two numbers are 6 and 8
