    Given the equation: x / 11 - 2 = 3

To evaluate the equation, we must eliminate only x to one side.

The first step to to move - 2 to the other side, making it + 2. Thus, we should add 2 to both sides to cancel out - 2. We can't start with cancelling out the 11 under x since multiplying 11 to both sides. Multiplying 11 to x will also need to multiply 11 to - 2.

We should remember what we do to one side, we should also do to the other.

The first step therefore is addition.
