    1) Area of the original garden = 6 feet * 8 feet = 48 ft^2

    2) Area of the garden adding the 2 foot wide path:

    (6 + 4) feet * (8 + 4) feet = 10 feet * 12 feet = 120 ft^2

    3) Percent the original garden is of t he new total area:

    % = (original area / new total area) * 100 = (48 ft^2 / 120 ft^2) * 100 = 40%

    Answer: 40%
