    Let A (x₁, y and B (x₂, y₂). The length of AB is given by the following formula:

    AB = √[ (x₂ - x₂) ² + (y₂ y₁) ²]

    A (-6, 2) and B (8, 10), then

    AB = √[ (8+6) ² + (10-2) ²] = √[14² + 8²]

    AB = distance = 2√65 = 16.124
