    M represents the number of months:

    30+8m=18+20m

    30+8m-20m=18+20m-20m (subtract 20m from both sides)

    30-12m=18

    30-30-12m=18-30 (subtract 30 from both sides)

    -12m=-12

    m=-12/-12

    m=1

    After 1 month their savings will be equal.

    The first month or one month is all it takes.

    In one month both have 38 dollars
