    Represent L as L = W + 42.

    Then P = 2W + 2L

    Here, P = 524 cm = 2W + 2 (W+42) = 2W + 2W + 84 = 4W + 84

    Solving 524 = 4w + 84, 4W = 524-84 = 440.

    Dividing both sides by 4: W = 110 cm. Then L = 110+42 = 152.

    Check: Does 2 (110) + 2 (152) = 524? YES

    W = 110 cm and L = 152 cm
