    The area of a trapezoid is the height times the average of the base lengths, mathematically:

    A=h (b1+b2) / 2

    In this case h=5, b1=8 and b2=1 so

    A=5 (8+1) / 2

    A=5*9/2

    A=45/2

    A=22.5 m^2

    If the bases of a trapezoid are 8 and 1 with a height of 5, the area of the trapezoid would be 22.5 square centimeters.
